Coventry Barracks
Installation of safety barriers to protect the edges of all deck perimeters, including lighting columns, in this 460-space multi-storey car park.
Berry Systems installed safety barriers to protect the edges of all deck perimeters, including lighting columns, at the Barracks multi-storey car park in Coventry.
This car park, which has 460 spaces, is a key component of Coventry’s infrastructure, serving both shoppers and local businesses.
Constructed over 50 years ago and having only seen intermittent maintenance, the car park required a major refurbishment to extend its operational life for another decade.
The refurbishment was awarded to Makers Construction, who engaged Berry Systems to provide new perimeter edge protection.
Berry Systems installed traditional ‘Armco’ style Barrier Rails mounted on RB1X Spring Steel buffers. These buffers are designed to absorb impact, minimizing damage to both the barrier and any vehicles involved in a collision.
At the ends of aisles, where vehicle speeds are higher, double-force barriers with post centres of 800mm were installed for enhanced protection.
To ensure pedestrian safety, extensions were added to the buffers to support handrails at a height of 1100mm.
Anti-climb mesh was installed from the floor to the handrail, complying with BS EN 1991-1-1 standards.
Additional products included Column Protection Units to safeguard lighting columns and other critical areas.
