Installation of internal and external safety barriers to protect walkways, loading bays and columns.

Client
Bowmer & Kirkland
Location
Bridgwater, Somerset

Berry Systems installed both internal and external safety barriers to protect walkways, loading bays, columns, site equipment, and personnel at the new Morrisons Regional Distribution Centre in Bridgwater, Somerset.

Spanning nearly 60 acres with over 71,000 square metres (approximately 750,000 square feet) of warehouse space, the facility serves as a key hub for distributing Morrisons’ products to stores across the West and South West of England, as well as South Wales.

DLA Architecture specified over 2.5 km of safety barriers to safeguard people, machinery, and equipment throughout the site. This specification was approved by both the client and the main contractor, Bowmer & Kirkland. Inside the warehouse, more than 1.5 km of barriers were installed, with nearly 1 km added outside the facility.

In total, approximately 800 metres of Berry’s Spring Steel Buffers were used, including a Warehouse Rail installed below the standard barrier rail to protect pedestrian walkways from warehouse vehicles such as forklifts.

The lower rail was specifically designed to prevent forklift forks from penetrating pedestrian walkways, adding an extra layer of safety.

The varied barrier styles used throughout the facility were tailored to address specific risks in different areas, demonstrating the versatility of Berry Systems’ range in providing approved and tested solutions to meet diverse safety needs.
