Synopsis:

We delivered effective column protection to our client, Clugston Construction, to be installed at the newly constructed IKEA in Sheffield. Our Column Mounted Column Protection Units and Double Height Monostrut CPUs were installed in order to protect structural columns from vehicle impacts.

IKEA, Sheffield:

IKEA’s Sheffield store opened in the late summer of 2017 after being newly built by Clugston Construction, becoming IKEA’s 20th store to open in the UK.

This particular store is the first and only in the UK to have a tram stop nearby, named Carbrook, for shoppers to take advantage of. Should shoppers wish to drive to the store, car park  capacity is 983 spaces to accommodate the anticipated volume they expect to receive.

Due to the volume of traffic and the size of the store car park, we delivered column protection to help protect structural columns, lighting and pipework from vehicle impacts. This cost-effective solution can help reduce repairs on a long term basis as structural repairs are expensive.

The products we installed were delivered in a galvanised finish, meeting BS EN 1461 standards, to prevent weathering and for improved aesthetics. As this particular client was expecting high traffic volumes, we recommended preventative methods such as Column Protection Units to minimise damage to structures.
